Sumner College is committed to each student from the moment they step into the school and long after the completion of their chosen program.  Not only is it important to provide quality education, but it is equally important that our graduates enter the workplace as quickly and easily possible.  While we cannot and do not guarantee employment to our graduates, we will use all available resources to help graduates secure a position in their chosen career field because our success is only as great as our graduates. 

To ensure our services accomplish the student’s objectives, the Career Services Department regularly conducts Employment Verification, and Graduate Placement surveys.  Programs are also audited to make sure students are learning the required skills for their chosen career field.  Employers are also surveyed on their satisfaction of our graduates they’ve employed.

How Does the Student Services Department Support Students?

• New Student orientation is held prior to the first day of class so students are prepared and familiar with the college.
• Assist with the development of cover letters, and résumés.
• Teach proper formatting for business letters and professional emails.
• Assist in the interview process from the submission of online applications, to mock interviews, and professional appearance.  Debriefing is completed with the student at the end of the process.
• Locate Internships and Externships opportunities by networking with local employers.
• Coordinate tutoring sessions (Individuals or Groups).
• Host Guest Speakers

How Does the Career Services Department Help with the Job Search?

• Utilize all available career resources:
   -Internet
   -Newspaper
   -Network Organizations
   -Trade Articles
   -Community Contacts
   -Referrals
   -Relationships with local area businesses and staffing agencies.
• Students and graduates are also given tips and strategies for using all available resources so they can also search on their own time.
• Attend career fairs.
• Promote the utilization of networking opportunities, including social networking.
• Students have access to a variety of career and industry articles and reading material.
   o An Occupational Library is developed and maintained.

Additional Services:

• Assist students with part-time jobs while they are in school as long as it does not disrupt academic progress.
• Assist with transportation and living arrangements (i.e. housing and finding roommates).
• Finding social services such as: TANF, Medical Services, etc.
