Sumner College Gives Back - 2018 Adopt-A-Neighbor Program

Sumner College was thrilled to participate in the winter 2018 Adopt-A-Neighbor program through REACH CDC, which is a local nonprofit providing high quality, affordable housing to families all over the Portland area. The college is proud to share that we were able to adopt two families at the Patton Park building on North Interstate Avenue, fulfilling requests for a total of 12 people from ages two through adult. Both families received household necessities such as laundry detergent, dish soap, diapers, and hygiene products, as well as individual wish list gifts including items such as winter coats, pajamas, rain boots and toys.

This past winter was the first time that both families participated in the program, making it a new and very meaningful experience for the college to be part of.  With the help of Sumner and other generous donors, every single adoption request was fulfilled. The organization expressed appreciation to donors for the joy added to residents’ lives, many of whom were facing a taxing time.  Families showed gratitude as well, and one resident shared the following:  "I am thankful for the opportunity to participate in the Adopt-a-Neighbor Program. The fact that I got something that I truly needed was a blessing and my children were very happy to get their gifts. Thanks again to the donor that blessed us with those wonderful presents."
