Today is Florence Nightingale’s (the founder of modern nursing) birthday. Today wraps up National Nurses Week, that is celebrate every year starting May 6th through May 12th. Nurses are essential members of our health care system. It take a special individual to be able to provide compassion and important medical care to our society. Sumner College is proud and honored to be able to provide the quality education to prepare nursing students for this esteemed and critical profession.
Thank you to all Nurses and Nursing Students who have and will be taking care of us and our families. We had cake at the school for students to show our appreciation, and we hope the rest of you show your thanks to the nurses in your life.
Despite the April showers, the staff and faculty at Sumner College is taking some time to say thank you to its current students with a Hollywood themed Student Appreciation Day! Movies will be playing in the lobby, snacks and prizes will be raffled off all day. The Sumner staff are all sporting the Sumner colors today (Red &/or Black)..

This some great and encouraging news released by the Oregon Employment Department via their Oregon Labor Marketing Information System (OLMIS)… Health care is Oregon’s fastest growing occupational group. According to the OLMIS, it is expected to grow 27.9% or 34,862 jobs, between 2010 and 2020. Occupations adding a number of these jobs are registered nurses (RNs), licensed practical and licensed vocational nurses (LPNs) and nursing aides, orderlies, and attendants (CNAs).
